The Dimensions.ai database allows for full-text searches, including through proximity booleans. This creates new opportunities for tracing misidentified cell line papers in the literature, something we have worked on before. Tracing such papers with decent accuracy allows for systematic analysis of causes and remedies for misidentification. I will focus on the complications of doing proximity searches and how to validate them.

15.45 Presentation + discussion: How to deal with fake references in academic literature?
Information professionals Norma Fötsch and Maarten Gubbels from the Nijmegen School of Management library team will lead a roundtable discussion on the topic. They will briefly present cases involving an editor and a researcher who have had to deal with fake references. The aim is to collect ideas and share examples of how to check publications for fake references, and how to handle articles containing them.
